Sea Change

Batch 5

This one changed everything and regretted nothing. It was thrown tall; gravity preferred it wide, and pulled the shoulders out into a low, generous sweep with a cinched sailor's collar of a neck. It was glazed for the bright green of its batchmates; the kiln dealt sea-glass turquoise over cream instead, pooling like shallows over sand. Twice redirected, it landed somewhere better than the plan — which is, of course, the textbook definition of its name. Best consulted when your own plans start drifting.
