Freeform Jazz

Batch 5

Two pieces thrown separately, joined at the waist into one raised chalice — and then the glaze picked up the sheet music, nodded politely, and played something else entirely. Blues run where they weren't sent, sand breaks through mid-phrase, dark brown comes in off-beat at the rim, and the inside erupts in radiating stripes like a solo nobody could transcribe afterwards. The structure held; the melody went gloriously off-book. The potter has decided, correctly, to call it a performance.
