Bubble-lace in warm oat and sand drifts around this little dish until, right at the centre, it erupts: a burst of cornflower blue flaring out through the cells like a new star caught being born — a nebula photographed from a garden bed. Pale moons pop through the pattern on their way past. The underside plays it straight in glossy cream, as though nothing astronomical is happening upstairs.
