Champagne Problems
Ribbed like a tide-worn rock and dressed in a squall: ice-blue foam breaking along the rim, storm-navy and bronze streaming down the grooves, then bare sandy clay at the foot where the weather runs out. But the real event is at the bottom of the cup. A cluster of tiny bubbles rose up through the glaze and set there, a fizz frozen mid-sparkle, arranged in a ring nobody drew. The glaze went on generously and the kiln chose to make a feature of it — which, as problems go, is very much the good kind.
