The feud continues. Last batch, a plate cracked clean through and took the round. This batch, the potter threw another — bigger, in brushed stonewash denim with a pale spiral turning at its centre like weather on a map — and the plate, cornered, tried its one remaining move: it went wonky. The rim rises and dips like a tide with opinions. But look closely: no crack. It bent, and it held, and it made it to the shelf. Score one for the potter. The plates will be back.
