Plot Twist

Batch 3

Halfway through being an ordinary cup, the clay had a better idea. The wall folded mid-spin and the potter — wisely — let it: the rim now crests like a breaking wave, rumpled and curling, marbled in rust, bronze and storm-blue over a calm speckled-sand base. Inside, the folds spiral down to one quiet, glossy pool. The wheel went off-script, the potter kept the ending, and the story is better for it.
