Plate Expectations

Batch 4

The potter's own filing system called this one "yet another plate", which rather undersells the situation. Midnight navy pools across the well in slow wheel-spirals, shot through with a fine mineral shimmer, while one paler current sweeps the rim like weather crossing a night sea. Turn it over and there's the honest speckled cream clay, a blue tide-line running right around the edge, and the maker's stamp pressed quietly into the foot. Ordinary, apparently. Look again.
